Take Post – Saint Barbara’s Day Greetings – 04 December 2024
‘Barbara, Barbara,
We may not lose a breath,
Be at the bursting doors of doom and in the dark deliver us’
On Saint Barbara’s Day – 04 December 2024, Colonel Patrick White (Retd), President of the Artillery Club extends his best wishes, together with those of the Club’s Committee, to all serving and retired Gunner Officers, both at home and overseas, and to those comrades in other arms who value our support.
Worldwide, Saint Barbara is the Patron Saint of Gunners. Her feast day, 04 December, will be celebrated wherever Gunners assemble. We hope that serving and retired Gunners of all ranks will enjoy this year’s Saint Barbara’s Day.
Saint Barbara’s relics are venerated at St Vladimir’s Cathedral in Kiev, Ukraine.
On Saint Barbara’s Day, as Gunners let us pause, recollect, and celebrate the Artillery Corps professional commitment and excellence, its unique legacy, distinctive traditions, steadfast camaraderie, and admirable Esprit de Corps – vital elements of the moral component of artillery power.
The 2024 Saint Barbara’s Greeting Card depicts the statue of Saint Barbara, now located at the Artillery School, Defence Forces Training Centre, Curragh Camp, Co Kildare, surrounded by artillery themed ironwork. Both the statue and the ironwork were relocated to the Curragh Camp, from the former Artillery Corps Depot, in Magee Barrack, Kildare in 1998.
May your Limbers Keep Rolling Along, on this Saint Barbara’s Day and for many more.
