Field Trip Glen Imaal Artillery Range – 06 June 2024
On Thursday, 06 June 2024, serving and retired members of the Artillery Club, participating in this Field Trip in Glen Imaal’s Artillery Range, were welcomed by: Lieutenant-Colonel Shane Bradley Director of Combat Support and ISTAR (D Arty); Lieutenant-Colonel Peadar Ó Catháin, Regimental Commander 1 Brigade Artillery Regiment; Lieutenant-Colonel John Prendergast, Regimental Commander 2 Brigade Artillery Regiment; and Commandant Claire Quinn, and Regimental Sergeant-Major Mick Ronague 1 Brigade Artillery Regiment, and visited the 2 Brigade Artillery Regiment’s deployment at Stranahely.
Attendees were honoured to witness the Last Round individually fired by the following retiring Gunner Officers: Brigadier-General Brian Cleary, GOC 1 Brigade; Colonel Tim Daly HQ 1 Brigade; Colonel Dermot Hanifin, College Commandant The Military College; and Colonel Pat White, Executive Officer 2 Brigade and President of The Artillery Club.
Brigadier-General Steve Ryan, Colonel Daragh McKevitt, Colonel Denis Hanley, Brigadier-General Paul Pakenham (Retd), Colonel Brian O’Connor (Retd), Colonel Dave Betson (Retd), Colonel Ray Quinn (Retd) Colonel Tom Carter (Retd), and Colonel Seamus McDermott were in attendance.
Attendees appreciated the Artillery Corps renowned hospitality and availed light refreshments before the shoot.
On behalf of all members of the Artillery Club, the Committee salutes the commendable service of all those who fired their Last Round in the Glen, for their distinguished service at home and abroad with the Permanent Defence Force, the United Nations, the European Union, and NATO’s Partnership for Peace. Finally, the Artillery Club’s members wish the retiring Gunner Officers, and their respective families all the best for the future.
