Background
COVID-19, also known as coronavirus, is a new viral respiratory illness that can affect your lungs and airways. Ireland’s first case of coronavirus was confirmed on 29 February, 2020.
The Government remains proactive in implementing measures to protect citizens by delaying the spread of COVID-19. The Government’s Action Plan, released on 16 March is below.
Government Action Plan 16 Mar 20
GRO 4/2020 prescribes the provisions in relation to COVID-19 for the Defence Forces
Members of the Artillery Club are encouraged to implement GRO 4/2020, keep informed of developments regarding COVID-19 by means of official websites and credible social media platforms, and maintain active communications with retired personnel of the Artillery School, 1 Artillery Regiment and 2 Artillery Regiment.
In particular, the Committee urges all Artillery Club members to muster appropriate support, and where necessary coordinate medical intervention, for vulnerable or isolated Defence Forces veterans, and spouses of deceased personnel, residing in their community.
In the prevailing environment, the Artillery Club salutes the Defence Forces whose primary focus, in the near to medium term, is supporting the Government and the Health Service Executive by means of providing capabilities in areas such as planning, tracing, testing and driving.
On 12 March, in line with Government advice, the Club’s membership was advised of the Committee’s decision to cancel the following Field Trips:
- 23 April. The Ordnance School and the National Stud; and
- 28/29 May. Fort Shannon, Fort Shannon, Foynes Flying Boat Museum, Bunratty, Árd na Crusha and King John’s Castle.
